Children’s Athletics
Building strength, friendships, and a love of movement — one stride at a time
This year we’re making a few changes to the way we run our kids’ athletics sessions.
Sessions will be held every Tuesday at the Fiordland College grounds, starting 13 October, with the following times:
• 3.30pm – Under 5s (finishes at 3.50pm)
• 4.00pm – Ages 5–8 (finishes at 4.45pm)
• 4.15pm – Ages 9–14 (finishes at 5.00pm)
We are currently working through the best format and session times for athletes aged 15+, and more information will be available soon.
Sessions will run during the school term, with athletes preparing for the Colgate Games also having the opportunity to attend additional training sessions during the school holidays.
The cost is $30 per child, per term, and children will need to be registered before attending. Registration forms will be available shortly.
For athletes wanting to compete at the Colgate Games, they will need to register as a member of Fiordland Athletics Club. More information about Colgate Games and Fiordland Athletics club registration will be provided closer to the time. If your child is registered with the Fiordland Athletics Club, you do not need to pay the additional $30 term fee.

At the Fiordland Athletics club, we run Get Set Go, a fun and engaging programme for kids aged 3–5 years. It’s designed to help children enjoy being active through play and sport while developing their fundamental movement skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Through Get Set Go, kids build skills that make participating in games and sport more fun and successful, including physical movement skills, Knowledge and cognitive skills and emotional and social skills.
We’d love to see your children join the fun and get moving!

Run Jump Throw is a fun and active athletics programme designed to help children develop coordination, balance, and confidence through running, jumping, and throwing activities. It’s all about learning new skills, building fitness, and having a great time with friends.
Come along and join the fun!

Children in this age group will begin to develop more athletics-specific skills and techniques across a range of events. Sessions will be designed with the Colgate Games in mind, providing opportunities for children to develop their strengths and, if they wish, focus in one or more events.

We are still in the process of working through what these sessions look like.
