Senior & Masters Athletics

Empowering athletes to perform, compete, and thrive at every stage

At Fiordland Athletics, we welcome senior and masters athletes of all ages and genders. Our members range from social runners to highly competitive athletes — including distance runners, track specialists, and field competitors. Among our ranks are New Zealand representatives at the World Mountain Running Championships and national record holders across multiple age groups. But you don’t need to be a competitive athlete to join us — whether you’re chasing a new personal best or simply enjoy being active, you’ll find a supportive, social, and vibrant environment. There’s plenty of guidance and coaching available for anyone keen to learn, improve, or just have fun.

The images above showcase some of our incredible senior and masters athletes who proudly represent Fiordland Athletics Club. Many of these dedicated competitors also share their passion and experience by helping out with our juniors during Run Jump Throw sessions.

Among them is Gail Kirkman, an outstanding athlete whose achievements include multiple national records and gold medals for New Zealand — in the 400 m at the Oceania Championships in Rarotonga, the long hurdles at the World Championships in Brazil, and the 800 m (blue track) as the final event of the heptathlon in Brazil. These impressive results were achieved in the W60 and W65 age groups.

Also featured is Gary Kirkman, pictured competing at the annual Home Creek event in Manapouri. Gary has been awarded “Legend” status by the organisers of the Motatapu 42 km off-road marathon for completing all but one of the races — with numerous age-group placings to his name.

We’re proud of the dedication, talent, and inspiration these athletes bring to our club and community.
